Peacefield

 

Today is World Peace Day and we are wanted to acknowledge that in a cocktail.

We recently bought some vintage 1950s cocktail swords by Spanish manufacturer Toledo. They used to make the “real deal” but later started making these more decorative replica pieces. They are fully metal, painted in the most delicate way and simply the perfect example that you could abandon the thought of war and focus your creativity on something more fruitful (and fun).

And then there is the cocktail itself. We wanted to make a cocktail with the word “peace” in its name, but there are surprisingly few out there. Luckily we found the Peacefield, by restaurant Townshend, in Frederic Yarm’s book Drunk & Told:

1 oz light rum
0,75 oz pineapple juice
0,5 oz green Chartreuse
0,5 oz lime juice
0,25 oz simple syrup
Shake with fresh ice, strain into a glass and fill up with crushed ice.

What’s really interesting in this cocktail is the unusual combination of pineapple juice and Chartreuse. Mixed together they create a bitter, almost amaro-like impression that is hard to describe in words. To us this is just another metaphor of how different characteristics doesn’t have to be a hurdle, but can rather create something fantastic when united.
