Manhattan

sweet vermouth, whiskey
Manhattan presented by Cocktail Detour

Manhattan – one of the most iconic cocktails ever – finally featured in our feed for the very first time.

A cocktail doesn’t get more simple and yet refined at the same time. If you don’t count the bitters, this is a two ingredients only cocktail, made with whiskey and sweet vermouth. The dashes of bitters are essential though and the cocktail would not be the same without them.

We like to stir this classic for a rather long time, say at least a minute. Two things will then happen; the cocktail gets freezing cold which we think is important, and it gets slightly more diluted. It’s a matter of taste how diluted you want to go, but considering the high ABV of this cocktail, adding water from the melting ice we think opens it up, making it taste more in the end.

There are also so many variations of the Manhattan. Actually the next cocktail we will post is a Manhattan riff, so stay tuned if you like these boozy type of brown cocktails.

How often do you enjoy a Manhattan, and what proportions do you use?
