In today’s cocktail we are using clear ice spheres, made by ourselves with a system we bought in Japan. The recipe doesn’t specifically say to serve the drink over ice, but as these coupes are rather large we needed the ice as a filler. Also, those of you following the cocktail brainchild Morten over at @thecocktail.blog are probably familiar with his #cubesincoupes movement, encouraging us to use ice also in cocktails served in coupes.
And these spheres really help to keep the Dead Poet ice cold. It is a drink you want to sip on for a while so it’s only beneficial with the cooling spheres. Also, the clearer the ice the slower it melts, so these giant balls shouldn’t dilute the cocktail too much.
A few words about the actual drink as well – because we really enjoyed it. The mix of tequila, mezcal and two liqueurs is quite irresistible and the golden colour makes it look really eye-catching.
Dead Poet
Recipe by Keegan McGregor
Ingredients:
1 oz blanco tequila
1 oz dry vermouth
0,5 oz mezcal
0,5 oz Benedictine liqueur
1 tsp yellow Chartreuse
2 dashes orange bitters
Mixing:
Stir all ingredients with fresh ice and strain into a cold coupe.
