Sazecake

absinthe, peychauds, whisky
Sazecake presented by Cocktail Detour

We’ve been generously provided with a sample of Glenmorangie’s new cake inspired whisky. And along with the bottle came a gorgeous pineapple cake, inspired by the whisky – or was it maybe the whisky that was inspired by the cake…

…anyway, here Glenmorangie celebrates the joy of a cake moment in a sweet and indulgent single malt Scotch whisky. Inspired by favorite memories of baking, birthdays and more, this whisky is not at all as sweet as it may sound, but it rather has a balanced and smooth sweet tone playing in the background.

The bottle is available also to us Swedes since a week or so. And while it’s certainly not the least expensive whisky, it’s almost a collectable. The bottle itself looks so pretty, and just seeing the word ”cake” on the label makes us so intrigued. Opening the bottle reveals the nice aromas of candied red berries, vanilla, oak and toffee.

We mixed a Sazerac riff with our sample. Following the classic recipe we only swapped rye for Glenmorangie ”a tale of cake” – and the result was so pleasing! The sweet cake notes paired with absinthe worked fantastically, putting a new twist to a celebrated cocktail without altering it too much.

This whisky is also nice to sip neat, maybe just before, or just after a dessert. Or why not during it? Paired with cake this whisky shines!
