Just published, in Swedish, is Hans-Olov Öberg’s and Emil Åreng’s book about the world’s most iconic cocktail, the Dry Martini.
Much can be told about that drink. In one way, the most simple cocktail recipe of them all, just two ingredients. In another way the most customizable cocktail as a play with ratios or the introduction of a third or even fourth ingredient can completely change the drink. And that’s what the book is all about. It’s actually filled with riffs and variations of this well-known original drink.
The Sicilian Martini quickly caught our interest. There is Italicus in the mix, and we genuinely like this refreshing bergamot liqueur. We then went with Noilly Prat dry vermouth, although we didn’t infuse it with lemon zest as suggested. Instead we chose a very lemon-driven gin, Malfy Con Limone which worked beautifully in this recipe.
If you in any way enjoy the original Dry Martini, and feel ready to experiment a bit, then this new book should be of interest to you.
The book is called “Jakten på en perfekt Dry Martini” and it is published by LB Förlag.
